Nearly as busy as the airport in Rome is Milan-Malpensa Airport. Since Milan is the business capital of the country it's especially busy with executives and the like, but it's also a short train ride to Venice or Florence in addition to the lake district so the central location keeps the facility busy all year. It's about 40 km from Milan so it's good that the Malpensa Express rail line makes the journey regularly.
